Triptych
December 17, 2007 at 8:27 pm | In 1 | Leave a CommentHere are the three parts to my triptych…
I thought my triptych turned out very well. It’s just how I wanted it to be. Jen Noon’s presentation inspired me to do something like her triptych- I thought it looked really cool. I was either thinking of making the text boxes go along with a quote or Bible verse. I decided to choose my favorite quote– which influenced me to make this triptych. It’s Maya Angelou’s quote and it goes like this, “Instead of looking for the right person, be the right person.” I really like what it says, because it’s so true. I took the underlining meaning of the quote and turned it into what I thought that meant–in my own triptych. I took a few pictures of a bunch of kids at lunch at school and then I took some pictures of my feet and the sidewalk. The left triptych panel is a picture of kids at school. I decided to darken it alot and use the fresco filter–making it really dark and shady. Then I added the white text boxes with the words, “I went looking for the right person.” The darkness is supposed to show how everyone is in their own little world and no one is being the right person. This then goes into the next panel that says, “I found no one…” I used the same filter on this panel–darked it and used the fresco filter. It’s a picture of me looking at me feet. Sort of saying–I give up–there’s no “right people” out there. So I have to dig deep and find the courage to become the right person (the person who I am looking for). This goes into the right panel, which is a picture of the same school kids, but this time the world looks brighter and more clear. Thus the words, “So, I became the right person.” On this panel I increased the saturation a lot–so the greens, pinks, and yellows jump off the pages. I also lightened the areas around the text boxes, so the words jump out more. I’m very happy with my triptych and was so surprised to hear it was bought at the gallery.
More, more, more pictures…
December 6, 2007 at 8:20 pm | In 1 | Leave a CommentI really like this picture because it means a lot to me. This is a picture of my great grandma’s house in Ajo, where she grew up. She died a few years ago, but at her funeral I took a picture of her hands. (she was known for her beautiful hands) She also loved sunflowers, so I put a sunflower in between her hands. I believe she is in heaven now watching over us, so I took her hands and placed them abover her house in the clouds. I’m going to give this to my grandma for Christmas, I think she’ll love it. I used a posterize filter on this picture. I really like this filter, it brings out all the small details into focus. I also increased the coloring of the sky and the plants and trees around the house. I made the opacity a very small amount for her hands, so it’s barely visible. So the viewer focuses on the house, but then their eyes sort of drift toward the clouds–because of the sunflower’s yellow coloring. I also like the lines on the house, it looks interesting and the angle is sort of mesmerizing. There’s a lot to look at, so some of it might be a distraction. The only thing I would change is maybe crop the bottom of the picture, because I feel the sidewalk ending is a distraction in the lower right hand corner. Otherwise I really like it.
I also really like this picture. I used the same filter on all of these pictures: posterize. The filter really brings out the details of this picture. The small shack becomes very clear. I also intensified the colors a lot, so the small blue shack starts to become the main focus of the picture. This picture has a lot of simplicity. The background is simple: a mountain with cactus and brush–very dull colors, thus making the shack the focus. The only thing I would change about this picture is crop the car because it’s distracting and brings focus away from the shack. I really like this picture because of how simple it is–a small, blue shack in the middle of nowhere. =]
This picture is very intersting to me. It’s a bunch of stamps from a small town post office. I also used the posterize filter on this picture– it helped to bring out the details and sharpen the focus. The focus of this picture are the Arizona stamps at the center, bottom. I just thought this picture was so cool because of all the different stamps a post office has–it’s very interesting. The only thing I don’t like about this picture is the shine or reflection off of the stamps–it’s a bit distracting. This picture also uses a lot of lines, which makes it look interesting and deeeeeeeeeeep.
More Pictures
November 26, 2007 at 8:52 pm | In 1 | Leave a CommentHere are three pictures that I took…

This picture turned out really cool because I didn’t even mean to take it. I meant to take a picture of some pretty Christmas lights outside and I had the camera on the movement effect, so this is how it turned out. Pretty trippy. I love the crazy lines; how they zig and zag and twirl. It looks like scribbles or doodling. The lines are really bright and have a pretty yellow haze around them all. It makes the picture not look real, almost like a painting. I really liked how the picture turned out, so I wouldn’t change anything.
I really like this picture because it’s so cute. The two hands, a woman and a man, represent a beautiful, romantic love between a husband and wife. The couple’s clothing matches and they both have something on their wrists– a watch and a bracelet. And their hands are clasped, which represents their love connecting through each other. It’s a really beautiful picture, so I wouldn’t change anything to the picture.
I also really like this picture because of the beauty of the hands. Lately, I’ve been enjoying taking hand pictures. The hands belong to a child and the viewer can tell that the hands belong to a young boy because he is playing with a Bionicle toy and a watch is one his wrist. The lighting is really cool in this picture, I really like the shadows the hands and toy create. The picture is very clear, making it look like the boy is right in front of you. I wouldn’t change anyting to this picture, I like it just the way it is.
Three Pictures Again

The main focus of my picture is the road. The way the road curves is a huge strongpoint for the entire picture because it draws the viewer to what lies ahead, sort of taking them on a journey. The lines on the road help create a sense of curiosity and movement. I used saturation on this picture, which helped bring out the color in the sky and roadway. The bright blue sky makes the viewer think of a nice, sunny day. By brining out the color of the entire picture, this made the street become sharper and more clear, giving it a nice-looking texture. I wouldn’t change anything to the picture, except maybe take that distracting sign out in the corner.
The main focuses of my picture are the two flowers. The bright, red color in this picture is phenomenal, which is what helps the two flowers jump out of the picture. The dew droplets on the picture create an ambiance of peace and a crisp morning. The only thing I would change about this picture is to get ride of the flower in the bottom right hand corner because it’s really distracting and takes away from the two flowers in the middle of the picture. I also really enjoy the dark, leafy background behind the flowers, which gives the picture sort of a jungle-look to it.
The clouds are the main focuses of my picture. I really like the color in this picture. The sky is a bright blue that gives a nice-summer-day-feel to it. The clouds are wispy, which makes it look like the clouds are drifting. All of the clouds are different shapes and sizes, which is also really cool. I wouldn’t change anything to the picture.
3 Pictures Again

The main focus of this picture is the path behind the tree. The green grass and beautiful tree and house scenery are the best points of the picture. The path line is a strong point of the picture, giving it an “off in the distance” look to it. I wouldn’t change anything to it. I love taking these scenery pictures!
The main focus of this picture are the clouds. I love the upward shot of the clouds and how the St. Louis arch shoots up into the sky, creating a very divine, tranquil look. The lighting is beautiful and the arch has sort of a shine to it, as the sunlight reflects off the sides. I wouldn’t change anything to it. I love’d taking pictures of this magnificent arch and it’s beauty. It was also a cloudy day, so that gave the arch an even greater look to it.
The main focus of this picture is the beautiful orange and black butterfly. It was a perfect shot, I caught the butterfly just in time. I took this in the famous butterfly house in St. Louis, MO. There were millions of butterflies in the house and this one caught my eye and was the prettiest. I love the background colors and how they blurred and the green. The butterfly and flower that it’s perched on is so crisp and clear, it’s so beautiful. The only thing I would change is the butterfly in the back is very distracting, I tried to crop it out as best I could, but it’s still distracting.
Client #2
November 5, 2007 at 8:40 pm | In 1 | Leave a CommentThis is my client job #2 for my client, The Well
I am currently working for Jennifer Wilcox and Janette Henson. They wanted me to design them a logo for their next upcoming series, Ask James, which is a take off Ask Jeeves. I designed the logo for them and am also making short movies for their series as well. It was pretty hard to draw Jeeves (the man). The font was easy to make, I chose a font that was similar to the Ask Jeeve’s font. I looked at the Ask Jeeves logo man and drew it the best I could, which was difficult. The only thing I didn’t like about it, was that he’s not as round in his stomach and his facial features are slightly off, but overall I think it looks pretty spot on. I felt this client job was relatively easy, so for their next series we will have to think of something more complex to work on.
3 Pictures
October 25, 2007 at 9:22 pm | In 1 | Leave a CommentHere are three photographs of mine.
I’ve been taking pictures of scenery and people’s faces. Recently, over October break, I went to St. Louis with my family and found the perfect opportunity to take pictures of my family and young cousins and their faces. Also St. Louis had great scenery and an excessive amount of greenery, so I took lots of pictures of everything. Out of all my pictures, I narrowed it down to three of my best ones. My first picture is of my aunt and uncle’s backyard. (Yard) The second picture is of two trees from Grant’s farm that we toured. (Trees) And my last picture is of my two cousins at the famous St. Louis arch. (Blur)
Yard:
The main focus of my picture is the tree. The fence in the background adds a lot of depth to the picture and gives it line too. The grass and other background trees add a lot of green colors to the picture, making everything blend greatly. The tree contains many great color—lots of yellows and greens. These colors give the picture texture and shape, pertaining to the leaves. This photo is successful because of the lined white fence, it really stands out. Then the tree adds a lot to the picture because of all its colors. All of it creates a scene of peace and makes one think of the changing seasons. If I could change something I would want to take the rope of the tree because there’s a small rope hanging from it and the rope creates some distraction from the tree. My work habits—like taking multiple pictures of the same thing, are contributing to my success.
Trees:
The main focuses of my picture are the two trees. The crazy shapes of the trees add a lot of depth to the picture. The different shades of green add a lot to the picture by keeping the viewer interested. The lighting is really tranquil and the way it comes through the leaves is almost divine and intriguing. The lighting and color make my picture really successful. I wouldn’t change anything.
Blur:
The main focuses of my picture are my two cousins. I used a tutorial for this picture—to give it a “Bourne Ultimatum” effect or a “blurred effect.” I blurred everything in the picture out, except my two cousins. I also took all the color out of the picture, except for the skin of my cousins. The lines of the steps add a lot of shape to the picture. The line of the St. Louis arch and the shapes and colors of the different clouds is also really cool. This photograph is successful because of the interesting lighting, the cloudiness, and the blurriness. I really like the body language of the girl—she’s sort of saying I’m tired of climbing these steps. And then if you look at the body language of the boy, he’s sort of has a determined look on his face and looks as if he’s racing up the steps, trying to beat his sis.
